To be read in case of aurora complications or the death, demise or termination of Heartman, the Beach Scientist. Belongs to be distributed by Constable Benton Fraser. ♫
Randvi, In the event that something has happened to me, I've instructed Fraser to deliver this letter. I hope it finds you well and under no duress.
I've theorized for a while that you are one of this community's pillars. You've been nothing but kind and thoughtful, and your practicality is not only appreciated but quite it's nessecary. You mentioned once you were a leader back before all of this -- those traits you've brought with you here are ones you must continue to forge and sharpen.
The wilderness is vast and dangerous. Your spirit and yearning for this community to thrive far surpasses anything the Darkwalker can throw at us. I believe in you.
Keep hope in your heart and wits in your head and everything will be well. -Heartman
While I still deeply regret the circumstances from our first meeting, I do not regret that the first person I saw here was you. You've become one of my most treasured friends. Please allow me a moment to be indulgent as I write this, as the social concept of friendship is something I often find myself lacking.
If you've opened this it means something has happened to me. I must ask you to do a few more things: there is a stack of letters in the bottom drawer of my nightstand, all labeled. Please take the ones with relevant names and deliver them. For the ones that I've not yet discarded and have disappeared, please burn.
1. Please take my chiral hourglass to William Gibson. 2. The cuffs I wear contain a plethora of information. While they don't work correctly here, they work as normal handcuffs. Keep them on you, in case of emergency. 3. The photo of myself and my family should go to Kate, but only if she would like it. Otherwise, burn it with the letters. 4. The umbilical cord will go to Darling, as well as all research be split among Billy and Darling. 5. The AED I have will remain with Goodsir and the other doctors. They are free to perform an autopsy if wanted or needed. 6. Please burn my body a few miles away from this town should Chiral Exposure still happen. In the event my body starts to leak a substance similar to oil and tar and gold flecks appear, wear a mask and dispose of it via immolation at a safe distance immediately. 7. While unlikely, in the event that the chiralium in my system attracts BTs, please lure them away. There is no known way to fight them here without proper tools. Stealth is highly advised.
Logistics out of the way, I'd like to address something: you. Steadfast, strong, loyal you. This world has thrown everything at you in the short time we've known each other. Loss, pain, fear, countless others--and yet you stand tall. Indomitable in the face of adversity. You must continue and you must keep going--others look to you. A small thing, to have composure at all times, but it will go a long way to keep hope in the eyes of other people. Help rebuild what I no longer can.
Should you find yourself faltering--and you will, not because you are bad but because you are human, and that's what makes us fantastically complex--please remember that there are others. Lean on your companions and talk to your friends. The best way to combat despair is with love.
Give Diefenbaker one last scratch, if you would. I'd greatly appreciate it.
Fraser should deliver this letter to you. I've taken a moment to write this down in the event something has occurred to me.
Firstly: I am fine, even if I am dead. Should my theory prove correct, as I've no soul, I should automatically return to the Beach. You must not worry.
Secondly, I'd like to thank you. Perhaps it's selfish of me, but I've come to view you as a daughter. An amazing one, at that. You're kind, smart, and curious about the world. These are three traits I value above all else, and you have them in spades. While the setting hasn't been ideal, the time I've spent with you reminded me what it is to be alive. I'd spent so much time searching for my family in the afterlife, I forgot to see the community in front of me.
If you'll indulge me, I'd like to offer you one last piece of advice. You must keep your faith in others and hope that we will endure. The world will get colder, crueler, and more desperate but you have the strength to combat that by simply being kind. You wield more power than you realize with the simple act of being. To live is the ultimate act of defiance in these dark times. Keep the photo of myself and my family that arrived with me. Burn it when only when you're ready.
It has been an honour to share this moment in time and space with you.
Fraser should deliver this letter to you. This means that something has happened to me. It's up to you to continue to study the aurora, a feat which I've no doubt you can accomplish. All of my research notes and findings are left to you and the rest of the group. Please use them appropriately.
There is also a perfectly preserved umbilical cord I've brought with me that you've no doubt seen. It belonged to a scientist I greatly admired and may be the key to solving what's happening in my world. Please keep it close in case someone from the UCA arrives.
It's been an honour puzzling through things with you. Someday, far from now, I hope to meet you on the Beach so you can share your findings.
If you're reading this it means I am in some way or another incapacitated. I wanted to thank you for your steadfast, continued medical assistance for me and everyone here. The AED is still to be left in your care. I hope it's useful.
As one scientist to another, you're free to examine my corpse before disposing of it. Myocardial cordiformia is truly fascinating. Please wear gloves and a mask if doing so: there are heavy traces of Chiralium in my blood. Exposure to just me should not be deadly, but still unpleasant. Allergic reactions in the form of tears are quite common.
I hope this letter finds you well, my dear friend. Fraser should be delivering this to you--I know you're not fond of those who follow the law to the letter, but I assure you he's doing this as my friend with no ulterior motive. To cut quite to the point: if you are reading this I am indisposed, if not outright dead. I've taken the liberty of including you in the list of friends I'd like to share a few final thoughts with. Hope you don't mind. If you do, then indulge a dead man and read it anyway, would you?
It has been my utmost joy spending time with you, be it carving or studying. You have been paramount to my research with both your knowledge and your company. I'm proud to call you one of my friends. The events of this excursion has been harrowing, but you've been a true light in the darkness.
The journey -- this place -- will tear at you. It already has. You're stronger than you think. You're smarter than you know. Stay close to those you love and you'll be alright. Remember: there is always hope. It's what makes us human.
I've instructed Constable Fraser to deliver my chiral hourglass to you to remind you to take time for yourself. The sand in it is not sand, but chiralium, so it will float upwards instead of downwards. Please take care not to break it, and in the event that you do, dispose of it using gloves and into the nearest fire.

P.S. Remember your promise. Speak your mind.
Svetlana;
While we've only met once, your immediate instinct to help is admirable. Thank you for what you've done and what you're doing here.
Please do take care of Fraser. I fear his only fault is that he puts himself and his health last.
Keep learning,
-Heartman
